PGA Championship 2017 - In Case You Missed It - Read It Here

The big story heading into the 99th PGA Championship was whether Jordan Spieth could win his 4th different major title, and round out only the 6th career slam in the history of golf. Well, we know now that didn’t happen, as Spieth made the cut but finished in 28th place. A lot of interesting things did happen at Quail Hollow last week – did you catch these fun facts:

  1. Louis Oosthuizen completed the career runner-up grand slam with the dubious distinction of finishing second in all 4 major tournaments over his career – The Masters, US Open, The Open Championship and the PGA. He did win the The Open Championship in 2010.
  2. Quail Hollow rolled out new greens as part of hosting the PGA Championship and many players said they could not successfully read the new greens. Spieth couldn’t believe one of his putts missed during the first round Thursday swearing it broke the opposite of expected. Haven’t we all been there!
  3. Justin Thomas’ birdie putt on 10 in the final round hung on the side of the hole for 11.5 seconds exceeding the common rule of 10 seconds. None of the marshals said a word.
  4. The Famous Green Mile encompassing the final 3 holes of the course certainly got a lot of attention during the telecast on CBS. The 16th was the 3rd toughest hole of the week, the 17th played 5th toughest and the 18th the most difficult hole of the tournament. Quite a finishing stretch.
  5. Did you realize all 4 major winners in 2017 have six letters in their first and last name? Sergio Garcia - The Masters, Brooks Koepka - US Open, Jordan Spieth – The Open, and Justin Thomas – PGA. Pretty cool coincidence to finish out 2017 at the majors.
